Metros begin final four weekend for league championship

After a long, hot summer (and very wet spring), it has come down to this weekend, in the C.O.M.B.L. The "Final Four" weekend...a 4-team double knockout tourney for "all the marbles" in the league playoffs. The four teams that have won their way to this weekend (with their pre-tournament seedings) are the Milton Red Sox (2), Glanbrook Grizzlies (3), Oakville A's (4) and Niagara Metros (6).

The schedule for the weekend has Oakville playing Glanbrook at 10:00 and the Metros facing Milton at 12:30 on Saturday. The two winners will then meet at 3:00, with the two losing teams facing off at 5:30. All of the games are at Nelson Park in Burlington. The winner of the 3:00 game will be undefeated after 2 games, and will go directly to the finals on Sunday, while the loser of the 5:30 game will be eliminated. The two teams that are 1-1 after Saturday will play at 9:00 Sunday morning, with that winner facing the team that advanced to the finals on Saturday. Of course, the advancing team would have a loss, and would have to beat the team waiting for them, twice, to win the title.

Best of luck to all the teams, but especially the Niagara Metros in their quest for league playoff supremacy! Should be a great weekend of baseball.
