Spears vs. Halton Cowboys

The Junior Varsity Spears played in Milton yesterday against the Halton Cowboys to a 66 to 14 victory. The Junior Spears played a strong game in all three aspects of the game, offensively, defensively and on special teams. The Junior Spears where lead offensively by Dylan Smythe with 3 touch downs, Chris Anderson 3 touch downs, Corey Verkuyl 1 touchdown, Bradley Sharpe 1 touchdown, Mario Villa Mizar 1 touchdown rounding off the scoring for the Junior Spears is Michael Domagala with 8 points after 1 field goal and 1 rouge. Defensively the Junior Spears were lead by Conner Warnock with 5 assisted tackles , Robert Purcha 2 assisted 1 solo tackle and 1 fumble, Chris Perin 3 solo tackles 2 interceptions, Tanner Demers 2 assists 2 solo tackles and 1 solo sack and Spencer Turpin 2 assisted tackles and 2 fumble recovery. The Junior Spears have a bye this coming week and will play against the Cambridge Lions on July 9, 2011 at home 4pm.

Spears vs. Newmarket Bucs

On June 18, 2011 the Newmarket Bucs Junior team visited the Niagara Junior Spears. The Junior Spears came out with one of their best games to date, beating the Bucs 54-0. The offence was lead by Corey Verkuyl with 11 carries for 125 yards, Dylan Smythe 11 carries for 105yards and 2 touchdowns, Mack Jones 7 carries for 58 yards 2 touchdowns rounding out the scoring Mike Domagala 2 field goals and 6 points after. The Junior Spears defence was lead by Robert Purcha 2 assist 2 solo tackles a interception for 111 yard touchdown return, Corey Porter 4 assisted tackles, Mitchell Sheehan 1 interception for 65 yards, Daniel Galante 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception return for a 31 yard touchdown and Chris Perin 2 interceptions one return for 50 yards for a touchdown. Up next for the Junior Spears is the Halton Cowboys.


Spears vs. London Falcons

The Niagara Junior Varsity Spears played against the London Falcons at TD Waterhouse stadium in London yesterday. After a hard fought game the Niagara JV team came out on the winning side 15 to 8.

The JV Spears took the opening kickoff and was able to march down the field and scored a touchdown but was called back due to penalty. The Spears was able to score but was called back again due to another penalty. Penalties has been a continual problem for this year JV team. On the third attempt the Spears where able to score a touch down with a pass from Mario Villamizar to Adam Evans. Mike Domagala was good on the extra point. The Spears defence played a strong game and was able to keep the London offence from getting into any scoring position except for a field goal attempt that was missed. The Spears where able to convert on a 1 yard plunged by Tanner Demers. The point after was blocked. The final score came by a safety from Conner Warnock. The JV Spears play the Newmarket Storm June 18 at 4pm on the Kiwanis field in St Catharines.
