The Niagara IceDogs lost a heartbreaker 2-1 in Erie Wednesday night despite outshooting the Otters 62-18.
The first period saw both goaltenders perfect as IceDogs starter Christopher Festarini stopped all five shots he faced while Erie starter Devin Williams was outstanding making 21 stops.
The second period saw the IceDogs finally open the scoring as Freddie Hamilton struck on the power play 14:58 into the period to give Niagara a 1-0 lead after two periods. Shots after 40 minutes were 45-12 in favour of the IceDogs.
The third period saw the IceDogs continue the barrage, peppering Williams with another 17 shots. However they would be unable to beat him and Erie would ultimately score twice on the powerplay in the last six minutes to pick up a 2-1 victory.
The loss breaks a six game winning streak for the IceDogs, who will return to action Friday night when they head to Sudbury to take on the Wolves.
