Windsor, Ont. - The Brock University women's soccer team (3-5-2 OUA) dropped a 2-0 decision to the University of Windsor Lancers (5-3-1 OUA) Sunday afternoon on the road.
Five minutes into the game, senior Candace Garrod (Kingsville, Ont.) gave the Lancers a 1-0 lead when she beat Brock freshman goaltender Amber Cubitt (Georgetown, Ont.), who made her third consecutive start.
In the 10th minute, Garrod scored her second goal of the game and team leading third of the season, to give Windsor a 2-0 lead.
The Badgers applied pressure throughout the rest of the match but could not beat Lancers senior goalkeeper Rebecca Singer (Amhersburg, Ont.) who made fives saves for the shutout. Singer currently ranks among OUA goaltending leaders in GAA (0.67) and shutouts (6). In nine games she has posted a 5-3-1.
Brock will look to rebound when they host the Guelph Gryphons (2-5-1 OUA) Friday, October 7 at 1 p.m.
They currently sit in 5th place in the OUA West Division with 11 points. The West division is very tight with five points separting second through fifth; Windsor (2nd - 16 points), McMaster (3rd - 13 points) York (4th - 12 points) and Brock (5th - 11 points).
