Brock men's soccer falls to No. 1 ranked Lions 5-1

 ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's soccer team (3-7-3 OUA) lost 5-1 to the No. 1 ranked York University Lions (7-1-3 OUA) on Sunday at Brock.

York opened the scoring in the 15th minute when sophomore Alon Badat (Thornhill, Ont.) made a run down the left wing and poked a shot past Badgers senior goalkeeper Ryan Toale (Brampton, Ont.).

Lions sophomore Carlos Noguiera (Brampton, Ont.) made the score 2-0 in the 30th minute when he headed a rebound past Toale.

In the 38th minute, Brock made the score 2-1 when sophomore Kenji Nicks (St. Catharines, Ont.) headed in a corner kick by Badgers freshman midfielder Yan Ilic (Dundas, Ont.) past Lions junior keeper Sotiri Varlokostas (Toronto, Ont.).

Four minutes later, the Lions extended their lead to two goals when Badat scored his second of the game by pouncing on a rebound from a free kick.

In the 45th minute, York took a 4-1 lead with a 15-yard blast from senior Adrian Pena (Woodbridge, Ont.).

The Badgers switched keepers to start the second half when sophomore Jake Sweetzer (Mississauga, Ont.) replaced Toale.

York took a 5-1 lead in the 82nd minute when Noguiera scored his second of the day.

The Badgers travel up the QEW to play the McMaster Marauders at 8:15 p.m. on Fiday, October 14th.
