LONDON, Ont. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team found themselves on the losing side of the CUFLA National Championship game for the second straight season as they dropped an 11-6 decision to the Bishop's Gaiters Sunday afternoon at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
Bishop's took an early 4-0 lead before the Badgers responded with four straight of their own to tie the game 4-4 at the half. Freshman goalie Cameron Watts would come up with two outstanding saves to keep the score deadlocked at four.
In the first 15 minutes of the third quarter, both teams would exchange goals as the game remained tied with 5:06 left in the quarter.
For the final 25 minutes of the contest, Bishop's offense would control the pace of the game answering with five straight goals on Watts, resulting in one of the most lopsided victories in the CUFLA championship final over the past 10 years.
Brock's offense could not get anything going in the second half and were held scoreless for the final 25 minutes.
For the second straight game, the Gaiters defense stepped up their pressure and stopped two of the top offensive teams in the country (Guelph and Brock), leading to their first CUFLA National Championship in the program's history.
Brock had six different goal scorers in the contest; Dustin Dunn, Roscoe Smith, Kyle Davis, Greg Davidson, Clark Robinson, and Craig England. The Badgers leading goal scorer during the 2011 regular season Jordan Weedmark was held scoreless finishing with just two assists.
Leading the Bishop's offense for the second straight game were Josh Crone (2G, 4A) and Mike Dube (3G, 1A). Joseph Laleune contributed with two goals while Gregory Harnett, Brett Conway, James Malloy, and Bradley Haddon all added one goal each in the victory.
Watts finished with 10 saves in the loss. Bishop's Keegan Durovick registered 10 saves in the victory.
