IceDogs Lead the Way in Eastern Conference Coaches Poll

The Niagara IceDogs led the way in this year's Eastern Conference Coaches Poll, finishing with 12 players named in the top three spots of the 16 categories, including Ryan Strome who was tops in three categories.

The sophomore forward was named the Most Improved Player, Best Playmaker and tied for Best Stickhandler, with his vote totals in the Most Improved and Best Playmaker being the second and third highest vote totals of any player in any category.

Fellow draft eligible IceDog Dougie Hamilton was first in voting in two categories, Best Skater and Best Offensive Defenceman, and finished third in voting for Best Defensive Defenceman. Hamilton's score of 43 in the Best Offensive Defenceman category was the highest vote total in a category for any player and only two points away from a perfect score.

Dougie's older brother Freddie also received recognition, placing third in the most underrated category behind Andy Andreoff of the Oshawa Generals and Brett Flemming of the Mississauga Majors.

Alex Friesen was recognized for his solid all around game being named in the top three of four categories, finishing first in Top Penalty Killer, second among Smartest Players and third in Best on Face-offs and Best Defensive Forward voting.

Finally, Captain Andrew Agozzino also received some extremely well deserved recognition, finishing third in voting for Most Dangerous in the Goal Area. It is those type of hard working goals around the net that have helped give the fourth year forward a career high 39 goals on the season so far.

The IceDogs would like to congratulate Ryan, Dougie, Freddie, Alex and Andrew on their well deserved recognition!
