IceDogs blank Bulls 6-0; Move into tie for division lead

The Niagara IceDogs moved into a tie for first place in the Central Division with a convincing 6-0 win over the visiting Belleville Bulls at the Gatorade Garden City Complex Thursday night.

The first period saw the IceDogs get off to a great start as Freddie Hamilton, Brett Ritchie and Andrew Agozzino would all score in less than a five span to give the IceDogs a 3-0 lead after one. Agozzino's goal was his 148th career regular season goal moving him into a tie for the most career goals in IceDogs franchise history with Patrick O'Sullivan. Shots in the period were 12-10 in favour of the IceDogs.

The second period saw both goaltenders put up zeros as the two team each played a strong defensive period. Shots in the period were 7-6 in favour of the visitors.

The third period saw the IceDogs double their lead as Mitchell Theoret, Ritchie and Trevor Petersen all found the back of the net and Mark Visentin stopped another nine shots to make the final 6-0 for Niagara. Final shots in the game were 34-26 for Niagara.

Visentin's shutout was his second straight and sixth on the season, moving him into the OHL lead in that category. Ritchie's two goals led Niagara, while Agozzino stayed hot with a goal and an assist on the night.

The IceDogs now hit the road for a pair of games this weekend, visiting Guelph tomorrow, before finishing up the weekend with a big Central Division battle in Brampton Sunday afternoon.
